VPN Setup: Site-to-Site and Remote Access on Your Firewall
A firewall you already own can connect your offices to each other and let staff reach office systems from outside, without buying a separate product. We set both up and test them with you.
Site-to-site VPN
An encrypted tunnel between two firewalls, so that a branch can use the head-office server as if it were in the same building. It also works between different brands, and to cloud networks in AWS and Azure.
Remote-access VPN
Staff install a small client on a laptop or phone and sign in with their own account. We tie sign-in to your directory where there is one and add two-step sign-in, so a stolen password alone is not enough.
What we set up
- Tunnels with current encryption settings
- Rules that limit each tunnel to the systems it needs
- A second internet line as fallback, where you have one
- Client profiles and a one-page guide for staff
Common questions
Does a VPN need a separate licence?
It depends on the brand and model. Site-to-site VPN is included on all five brands we supply. Remote-access VPN is included for a number of users on most, with a licence needed beyond that. We check for your model.
Will a VPN slow our internet down?
Encryption takes processing power, so each firewall has a separate VPN throughput figure. We check it against your line speed when we size the unit.
Can a VPN connect a Fortinet at one site to a Sophos at another?
Yes. Site-to-site VPN uses a common standard, IPsec, so different brands can connect to each other.
